LOT OF FOUR MILITIA OFFICERS AND DRESS SWORDS.

Lot consists of four US militia officer's swords, three with scabbards, one without. (A) Brass hilt with mother of pearl grip slabs, downturned counterguard with American eagle. Triangular epee style blade. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: Scabbard poor, lacks upper mounts. Drag nicely checkered. Open seam top and bottom at throat. Raised rust coming up through color overall. Hilt very good. Age patina to brass. No damage to mother of pearl. slight bow to knuckleguard. Looseness to downturned counterguard. Blade gray with good edge and point. Red blade pad in place. (B) Brass hilt with pineapple checkering to pommel, brass wire wrapped grip, floral motifs on knuckleguard, downturned counterguard with raised American eagle in center of plain panel with scrolled border. Blade blued on each side for eleven inches. Trophy of arms and three small floral motifs drypoint etched and gold washed each side. Brass scabbard with two rings and stud mount. CONDITION: Good edge and point. Blade with smooth steel gray color above the blue. Blue terminates in flame scroll floral motifs. Rubbing to blue and gold on lower half of reverse etching. Scabbard with aged brass patina. Rings and stud in place. Scabbard plain. Stud with floral design. Half-dozen dents to scabbard including deep crease on reverse fourteen inches from drag. Sword seats well, but scabbard lacks throat. (C) Gilt brass hilt with mother of pearl grip slabs. Hilt cast with floral designs. Openwork downturned counterguard with American eagle. Small sword, epee style triangular hollowground blade. No scabbard. CONDITION: Very good hilt with traces of gilt and no damage to mother of pearl. Nicely cast floral details. Blade with edge nicks. Dark gray spots for first fifteen inches of blade, then scattered and mixed with steel gray. Faint blade etching for the first three or four inches. (D) Brass hilt with US shield in circular wreath cast in very slightly downturned counterguard. Floral motifs to pommel and knuckleguard. Grips are pewter panels with cast displays of arms on either side. Blade is triangular epee style, hollow ground, plain, with Weyersberg king's head mark. Scabbard black leather with brass mounts. CONDITION: Very good. Minor scuffs to leather scabbard. Rings and stud in place. Hilt excellent. Mellow tone to brass, no damage to pewter. A nice group of four US militia and dress swords dating about 1840 to 1860.
