Lot consists of (A) US Model 1840 Non-commissioned officer's sword. 32" single fuller blade marked very lightly for Ames on left side of ricasso, right side ricasso marked very faintly " U.S. / U / 18(??)" with digits after 18 illegible. "K" proof on guard. Cast brass hilt imitating wire wrap. No scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is a deep patina mixing with steel. Brass furniture has numerous nicks, dings, and associated handling and use marks, with brass darkening. Grip is somewhat loose and wiggles. (B) Prussian Model 1889 Infantry Officer's Sword. The standard German officer's sword of World War I, this sword features 31 - 7/8" blade with two fullers, folding pierced guard with eagle, wire wrap grip with emblem, and metal scabbard. CONDITION: Blade has is heavily patinated, right side more so than left. Brass has acquired a lovely dark aging, with some wear showing silver spots. Wire wrap is fine, complete. Brass ferrule at top of grip is loose and sliding. Scabbard has numerous chips in paint showing metal and has some small dings. (C) is an Austrian Officer's Sword with 29 - 3/8" gently curving blade with single fuller. Pierced fixed guard depicting a coat of arms, wire wrapped fish skin grip. Pommel and knucklebow decorated en suite with grip. Blade stamped on right side of ricasso "SOLINGEN". Comes with scabbard with crown motif on throat, floral designs on locket, and more floral designs on chape. CONDITION: Blade is fine, shiny, with a small area of patina towards tip. Guard is good, complete, showing some darkening of brass especially on raised area. Wire wrap complete but somewhat loose. Fishskin grip has what appears to be a slight tear. Brass areas of scabbard are good, showing some age darkening. Leather has areas of loss. Stitching is loose on back. Significant crazing. (D) A second Austrian Officer's Sword, 29" single fuller gently curving blade, fixed and pierced guard with coat of arms. Knucklebow, pommel, and rear of grip decorated en suite. Fish skin grip with wire wrap. Blade is void of any makers proof. Scabbard decorated with crown motif at throat, floral design as at hanger and drag. CONDITION: Blade has areas of patination along both sides of blade and along spine. Guard is good, complete, with brass darkening throughout. Fish skin grip has numerous breaks, and some discoloration. Wire is broken with three strands remaining and some visible remnants of others. Scabbard has significant areas of leather loss and breaking, brass is complete and darkening. Stitching below hanger is gone and leather is quite loose. Remaining leather has significant crazing, bumps, and bruises.
