LOT OF 3: MILITIA OFFICER'S SWORDS, TWO WITH SILVER GRIPS.

Lot consists of: three American swords conforming to Peterson's militia staff officer type of the 1840-1860 period, though he notes they could be carried by any militia officer or even a regular army officer for a specific occasion. All have crested helmet pommels, cruciform hilts, straight blades. (A) Silvered grip, chain guard. Etched Ames address on blade with floral, military and patriotic motifs. 1834 style blade. Ames address stamped on reverse throat of brass scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Fine, delicate crosshatching to silvered grip with minor wear to edges showing toned brass. Vivid etching, slight greying to blade. Excellent grips with pleasing patina. Nice patina to silver grip. Five pointed star in wreath on crossguard. Minor stains to gold washed brass scabbard. Very slight play to helmet pommel. (B) Openwork floral cast quillons with shield languettes. Chain guard. Silvered grip. Bright etching to blade with arms, floral scrolls, American eagle, etc. Scattered small grey spotting toward tip with light stains. No maker or dealer mark visible. CONDITION: Excellent. Slight wear to edges of grips showing brass. Bright gilt to hilt. Mix of gilt and toned brass to scabbard. Scabbard has engraved floral motifs with eagle perched on US shield with thunderbolt arrows beneath. (C) Mother of Pearl grip. Six pointed star motif on crossguard. Shallow diamond shaped blade with median ridge. Chain guard. Ames Cabotville maker scroll on reverse scabbard at throat. CONDITION: Poor. One grip slab missing. Dark patina to brass overall. Blade with good edge and point, but dark with grey and brown. Etching partially visible. Throat missing. Lower scabbard ring and stud on upper mount in place.
