Lot consists of: (A) Late War Volksturm Helmet, and (B) Infantry NCO Visor. (A) The Late War Volksturm Helmet shell is made of pressed steel with rolled edges, and is finished in a semi-matte black finish. The outside of the shell exhibits minor scattered light marks. Each side of the helmet has two sets of air vents consisting of seven holes in a hexagonal pattern. All four of the black liner pins are in place, and are tight to the shell. The interior liner is made of a heavy cotton-like fabric with a woven fabric drawstring. The original dome buffer pad is intact and firmly secured in place by the original pressed paper straps. The original clear synthetic chinstrap still remains with the helmet. However, the long strap end has become unattached and now rests inside the liner of the helmet. The shorter end with the buckle remains originally attached to the helmet's pressed paper liner band. These were last ditch helmets made during the last months of the Third Reich, and the materials used for their construction is a testament to this. CONDITION: Overall Excellent to Near Mint. (B) The Infantry NCO Visor Cap is constructed of a fine feldgrau doeskin upper and dark green wool lower band, with only a few very minor moth nips. The piping of the visor is made of a white wool and exhibits even patina and soiling from age. The chin strap is made of a pressed leather with a gloss black finish and exhibits even crazing throughout. The visor's bill exhibits even crazing and a few scattered light marks from use. The aluminum insignia consists of a Wehrmacht Adler over an oak leaves and acorn wreath, with national cockade placed inside the wreath. The insignia exhibits patina, which matches and compliments the overall appearance of the visor, and appears original to be undisturbed. The interior of the cap is lined with a high quality synthetic silk material and exhibits scattered light marks from wear. 95% of the original celluloid sweat shield remains intact and bears the makers logo and “Beste-Qualität” in a diamond. The leather sweatband is completely intact and exhibits darkening from wear, however, approximately two inches of the sweatband’s stitching has become unattached from the visor on each side near the bill. Two aluminum name initials “O” and “Z” are attached to the sweatband. CONDITION: Overall very good to excellent. D.W. Name Value Paperwork
