Lot consists of: an 1872 pattern light artillery officer's saber and a 1902 Pattern officer's sword. (A) Sword for mounted artillery officers adopted in 1872. Standard configuration with plain blade, brass mounted steel scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Mellow brass tone with traces of gilt on reverse 'P' guard. Excellent wrap and wire. Blade pad in place. Plain blade, unmarked, with good edge and point, smooth metal, muted silver in color. Scabbard smooth metal in the bright with plain bright brass mounts showing some gilt. (B) 1902 pattern officer's sword. Regulation pattern with steel hilt, contoured dark wood grip, branched guard and etched blade. CONDITION: Excellent. Steel hilt is muted silver in color. Blade pad in place. Blade is bright. Etching is vivid. Floral scrolls on both sides. Reverse with "Springfield Armory Springfield Mass. U.S.A." panoply of arms and "U.S." Obverse with two panoplies of arms, one with US shield in upper position, middle panel with American eagle over motto ribbon. Scabbard very good, but with a few grey spots near the upper mounts and light freckling to the plating overall. A nice pair of regulation US army swords. (SR).
