LORD RUSSELL, CHARLES JAMES FOX Some Recollections of Cricket . Woburn: H.G. Fisher, 1879. Small 8vo (160 x 100mm). (Beginning and end leaves affected by damp and discoloured at margins.) Original blue morocco for presentation, upper cover with title in gilt, gilt edges (heavily rubbed at extremities). PRESENTATION COPY inscribed to 'Fred -- P' [Frederick George Brabazon Ponsonby, sixth Earl of Bessborough (1815-1895)] on half-title. This privately-published booklet, circulated only among the author's friends, collected together several of his magazine articles and a 'National Testimonial to Mr. W.G. Grace ... delivered on Lord's Cricket Ground, July 22, 1879'. Fred Ponsonby, the recipient of this copy, was one of the work's two dedicatees. With his brother Sir Spencer Ponsonby Fane, he was one of the founders of I Zingari, a trustee for MCC, and Vice-President of the Surrey Cricket Club, which he was instrumental in forming, from 1845 until his death in 1895.
