Didymoceras nebrascenense Upper Cretaceous Pierre Shale Formation, Southwestern South Dakota The most desirable of all ammonites are the coprolitic heteromorph (loosely coiled) ammonites, such as Didymoceras. These rare specimens cannot be commercially collected or mined and are only randomly found by collectors as shale nodules are cracked open in the search for more common ammonites and scaphites. This excellent example has been painstakingly freed from its surrounding matrix and exhibits a dark honey to pearlized iridescent shell. The specimen is over 90 percent original, with the very top of the hairpin coil having been carefully restored. An incredible and aesthetic example of nature’s art on original matrix. Ammonite with matrix measures 7 ½ x 7in, Ammonite measures 8 1/4 x 5 1/2in
