MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Central or Eastern Europe, 17th-18th century] 4 o (210 x 165 mm). 314 + [4 blank] leaves. Brown inks. Different Ashkenazic semi-cursive scripts. (Slightly dampstained, a few other minor defects, otherwise good condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled red morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, one additional older flyleaf at the front, old sprinkled edges. CONTENTS: I. Fols. 1r-115v: Omer Man . Menahem ben Juda Lonzano's commentary on the Idra Zuta and Sifra di-Tseni'uta from the Zohar (ed. Vilna 1883). Fol. 116r: blank. II. Fols. 116v-130r: Gedaliah Halevi's Derushei ha-Melakhim she-Metu on transmigration of souls (published in Jacob Zemah's Kol be-Ramah , Korets 1785; Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 600, no. 58), followed by a similar work by Isaac Luria. Fols. 130v-132v: blank. III. Fols. 133r-161v: Derush Eliyahu ve-Elisha by Jacob Zemah. Printed in the book Tsemach Tsadik (Korets 1785; Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 600, no. 57). IV. Fols. 162r-174v: Poem on the Ten Sefirot with a lengthy commentary. The poem begins Keter tif'artekha ram al kol ramim . The poem and the commentary were published in the anonymous ethical-kabbalistic book Tohorot ha-Kodesh (Amsterdam 1733; Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 62, no. 1411). On Tohorot ha-Kodesh and the problem of its authorship, cf. EJ 15, col. 1191. V. Fols. 175r-211r: Glosses on the Zohar, transcribed from the copy belonging to Hayyim Vital and brought to Europe from Erets Israel by Meir Poppers. Found in many manuscripts. Fols. 211v-214v: blank. VI. Fols. 215r-218v: Sod Rechitsah Gedolah . Treatise on the ritual washing of the corpse before burial. First published in the book Lechem ha-Panim by Moses Y. Kaufmann (Hanau 1716; Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 164, no. 80) and from other manuscripts as Seder Rechitsah Gedolah by M. Benayahu, in Jerusalem Studies in Jewish Thought 4 (1982) p. 151-156. VII. Fols. 219r-268r: Nof Ets Chayyim , branches 2-3, by Hayyim Vital. Branch 2, on Biblical passages, is in the second redaction by Meir Poppers and is different from the redaction published with the title Likkutei Torah (Zolkiew 1775; Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 314, no. 364). Branch 3, on legends of the Rabbis, also edited by Poppers, was never published. Fols. 268v-270v: blank. VIII. Fols. 271r-285r: Short kabbalistic notes, including secrets or reasons for different commandments. Inter alia , a commentary on the Six Days of Creation, on Sukkah and Lulav , the Seven Benedictions, Merkavah , Chamets and Matsah , etc. Pre-Lurianic kabbalah. Some were published at the end of the printed edition of Moses de Leon's Nefesh ha-Chokhmah (Basel 1608; Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 100, no. 231). IX. Fols. 285r-287r: Sod bat Sheva . Mystical secret of Bath-Sheba by Joseph Gikatilla. X. Fols. 287rv: Secret of levirate marriage ( yibbum ) by Eleazar ben Judah of Worms. XI. Fols. 288r-314v: Sha'arei Chayyim .
