A.Wittnauer Company was the agent for Longines in U.S.A. starting in 1880. This model is named after Lieutenant Philip Van Horn Weems, a US Navy commander born in Tennessee in 1889. During his career serving his country at sea, he was the inventor of several navigational innovations. The present model features Weems' invention of the second setting system, with a rotating 60-seconds dial to improve accuracy in timing and synchronicity, vital for aviation and on seafaring expeditions.
