London: Richard Phillips 1804 [watermarked 1803 (text), 1804 (plates)]. 4° (248 x 197mm). 31 hand-coloured engraved plates with integral grey wash borders, extra-illustrated with 31 hand-coloured views of London, all cut-down and mounted to size, most aquatints, most taken from Ackermann's Repository of Arts . Later red morocco gilt, by Root & Son., t.e.g. Provenance : J.R. Dickinson Byfield (inscription, signature); unidentified armorial leather book-label. A very fine copy of this part work, published as parts of Sir Richard Phillips' Modern London (1805) with the first issue of Craig's plates, supplemented by appropriate plates extracted from Ackermann's Repository of Arts . (Sheet size: 120 x 115mm). 20 hand-coloured engraved views of individual buildings, within roundels, 12 with border outside the roundel with grey wash, mounted on later card. 20th-century red straight-grained morocco gilt, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges, by Morrell. A selection from a Fores series, which according to Abbey, was complete with 24 views, published four-to-a-plate on 6 leaves.
