LOIMINCHAY Solid Jade & 18K Gold NINE DRAGONS Ltd Fountain Pen

Schätzpreis
120.000 $ - 180.000 $
Zuschlagspreis:
n. a.
Beschreibung:

A superlative fountain pen hand-carved out of a single piece of high-grade solid green jade, elaborately ornamented with nine high-relief Chinese dragons. The jade barrel and cap are overlaid on 18K solid yellow gold, contributing to the pen's impressive size and substantial weight. From the initial conception to the final production, the Nine Dragons project took seven years to complete, a monumental achievement unlikely ever to be equaled. The pen is a massive 20.1cm (201mm). The fine 18K two-tone gold nib is engraved with a dragon motif. The pen is housed in a large and ornate red morocco leather-lined black lacquer presentation box, itself a work of art. Included are copies of the original sales receipt from 2005 and a letter from Loiminchay certifying the pen's authenticity. Limited Edition: 5/10. The Nine Dragons pen is a singular achievement in pen design and has received extensive accolades since its creation in 2006. It was featured on the cover of Pen World magazine in November, 2006, along with a three page feature article, from which the following excerpt is presented: "When Patrick Chu, designer and founder of the Loiminchay pen brand, decided to make the ultimate pen, jade was the only material he considered. His newest creation is the Nine Dragons. "'All Chinese emperors called themselves dragons, and the highest dragon is the nine dragons, because nine is the imperial number,' he explains. 'I don't look at Nine Dragons as a pen; I look at is as an objet d'art . It is for people who love both antiques and jade. We made one prototype, and then we decided to make three pens, which were pre-sold. After that, three more sold... then I thought I should do ten pens. There will be ten in all, and only two are still available. Eight have sold.' Not bad considering that each sells for a quarter million dollars." - Pen World , Nine Dragons , Nov. 2006, pp.84-86, written by Keith W. Strandberg.
