Comprising: 1) Abbot de VERTOT. The History of the Revolutions That happened in the Government of the Roman Republic. London: D. Midwinter, et. al., 1740. Vol. 1 only, 8vo (197 x 117 mm). Frontispiece, 2 folding maps. Contemporary calf gilt. Condition : small area at head of title torn; worn. 2) The Young Clerk’s Magazine: or, English Law-Repository. Philadelphia: John Dunlap and Joseph Crukshank, 1774. Contemporary calf. Provenance : John Smith James Logan’s son-in-law (early signature on title). [With:] Het Nieuwe Testament . Amsterdam: Jan Marcuss, 1622. 16mo (97 x 50 mm). Early vellum. Provenance : James Logan (inscription on the front free endpaper in the hand of Deborah Logan?, “This book was James Logan’s”; and early manuscript annotations on the rear endpaper). “With knowledge, specialized learning in an amazing number of fields and book-buying acumen, [James Logan] formed a collection of books which, as substantive texts could not be matched in colonial America … He was a bookman extraordinary” (Library Company, James Logan: Bookman Extraordinary, 1971 exhibition catalogue).
