Oblong 4to, 173 x 225mm, contemporary pigskin over paper boards, blindstamped with rolls and central panels, initials "A.V.G.H." and date 1593 gilt stamped on upper cover, spine blindstamped, hinges and head and tail of spine repaired in vellum, missing 4 ties, 19th-century endpapers, inner hinges repaired, blank corners of first 30 leaves renewed, browned . SECOND EDITION. Large Plantin device on title, 2173 woodcuts printed 2-3 per page, indexes of plant-names in Latin, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English. Provenance : A.V.G.H., initials on binding -- many French plant-names added in a 17th-century hand, sometimes referring to Bauhin, Dodoens, Matthioli, et. al. -- K.F. Koehlers bookshop, Leipzig, label -- Kenneth K. Mackenzie; Horticultural Society of New York, bookplate and blindstamp -- Robert de Belder.
