97 color or duotone lithographed plates of scenic views; loose in individual sleeves in ringed binder. Images approx. 6x9" on sheets 8¾x11½". Series of striking lithographs published in the massive 12-volume compilation of surveys and reports undertaken under the aegis of Secretary of War Jefferson Davis in the largest concerted effort to map the western frontier of the United States to that time. The important series of lithographic views of the West, from drawings by Richard and Edward Kern, Tom Mix Stanley, Charles Koppel and others, presented to the world some of the first depictions of previously unexplored regions of the West, and some of its newly civilized regions. the prints include Camp Red River Hunters; Saint Paul; Entrance to Livermore's Pass' Sierra Nevada from the Four Creeks; View of Benecia from the West; Grand Coulee; Big Blackfoot Valley, and others.
