Only their distinctive, readily recognizable shape identify them as Japan, Korea, and portions of China and Russia. But there are waves of lines around each of the geographical locations. Working from the latitudinal and longitudinal designations, one could guage the effective range of radio communications. Both Charles and Anne Lindbergh made notations about radio call letters and frequencies on this map: "JXF 45h.," "KHCAL sends on 3.5" Mrs. Lindbergh writes, while her husband notes "Shanghai XHJ, 40h."
