The full text reads "Robert H. Strong,/named within, is/hereby pardoned as/to the unexecuted/part of his sentence/A. Lincoln/Jan. 16. 1864." Unobtrusive pencil markings on the margins. Framed with a reproduction photograph of Lincoln. A copy of the COA from James Spence Authentication, certification number B81787, will accompany this lot. The Robert H. Strong to which the note refers is presumably Robert Hunter Strong (b. Fayette County, Penn., 1835 - d. Mahaska County, Iowa, 1906), who held the rank of Corporal with the 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry, serving in the Civil War for a total of three years before being honorably discharged in 1865.
