LIGORIO, Pirro (c. 1510-1583). Effigies antiquae Romae ex vestigiis aedificiorum ruinis . [Rome]: n.d. Engraved bird's-eye view of Rome, 310 x 450mm.(Trimmed to image and window-mounted, very small loss to lower left corner.) VERY RARE, apparently unknown to either Frutaz of Tooley. Pirro Ligorio was an architect and a cartographer, this plan is very similar one of Ligorio's maps, published by Michele Tramezini in Rome in 1553 (Tooley 485, recording two copies only; Frutaz XVI). The present map is smaller than the 1553 issue. Not in Tooley; not in Frutaz; watermark triple mount in circle. DU PRAC, Stefano (c. 1525-1604), artist and engraver). Perfecta urbis antiquae imago . [Rome]: Antonio Lafreri, 1573. Engraved bird's-eye view of ancient Rome on two sheets joined, overall 466 x 599mm. (Trimmed to plate mark, some loss to right-hand sheet along inner edge, two small holes either side of join, one sheet neatly reinforced on verso along edges.) Frutaz XXI; Huelsen p. 142; watermarks similar to Woodward 324, but larger. [After Euphrosynus ULPIUS (d. 1552). La descrittione della campagna di Roma . N.p.: Hendrik van Schoel, 1601. Engraved map, 325 x 477mm. (Trimmed to plate mark and window-mounted, some staining.) A later strike of a very rare Duchetti-Lafreri map after Ulpius. Watermark similar to Woodward 104; together with another issue by Orlandi dated 1601. ANONYMOUS. Il vero disegno del sito di Hostia e di porto . [Rome: Antonio Lafreri, not before 24 January 1557 (date of title)]. Engraved map of Ostia, 259 x 390mm. (Trimmed to image and window-mounted, very light staining.) A fine map of Ostia printed anonymously in 1557 during the war between Pope Paul IV (Giovanni Pietro Carafi) and the Imperial army. Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana, St. Geogr. 58; Tooley 426. ANONYMOUS. Le Provincie li cui fiumi corrono nel Tevere . No imprint: [c. 1600]. Engraved map of the Valle del Tevere on a cut-down single sheet, 123 x 202mm. (Trimmed to image and window-mounted.)
