Libya When Howard Carter discovered King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, one of the precious metal amulets found displayed a scarab carved out of a green-hued glass that was clearly viewed as a significant material, as it was used as the center stone in the amulet. Later discovered to be a piece of Libyan Desert Glass (a tektite of almost pure silica) it was dated at 28 million years old. This lot comprises an Egyptian-style scarab with the Eye of Ra carved on its obverse side, similar to the carving in King Tut’s amulet, plus a large premium pale green nugget of Libyan Desert Glass with a meteorite-like surface of craters and scoops. Both specimens are housed in a Riker mount. Riker mount measures 8 x 6in; Scarab measures 1.75in; Nugget measures 4 x 2.5in; Weighs 189grams
