LEONARD CUSDEN (1898-1979) SEE INDIA / FATEHPUR SIKRI. Circa 1930. 40x25 1/2 inches, 101 1/2x64 3/4 cm. British India Press, Bombay. Condition B / B+: tears, repaired tears, creases and abrasions at edges; archival tape on verso. Paper. A bright, bold image using broad areas of flat color, (a style frequently associated with Tom Purvis and Henry George Gawthorn), of Fatehpur Sikri, the City of Victory. Built in the second half of the 16th century, the city was the capital of the Mughal Empire for ten years. Built with local red sandstone, the city, now a World Heritage Site, is considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture.
