Illustrated with 500 plates, 300 of which are chromolithographed (including many with gold and silver highlights), and 200 are duo-tone lithographs; some are double-page; plus some wood engravings. 8½x7½, uniformly bound in period half red-brown morocco and marbled boards, spines lettered in gilt, raised bands, marbled endpapers. First Edition, octavo issue. Racinet's masterwork on historic dress of the world, perhaps the most famous of all chromolithographed costume books of the 19th century, as valuable a resource today as it was when it ws first issued, the lovely chromolithographed plates still bright and striking. Lot Amendments Condition: Light rubbing and edge wear, small nicks and creases to spines, corners a bit bumped; a few hinges tender, mild foxing; plates mostly clean and bright; else very good or better.
