Currently undertaking her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, she obtained her BA in Fine Art from De Montfort University in Leicester (2021). She has shown work nationally, with her most notable shows at Leicester Gallery. Her first solo show will take place in October 2022. Education MA Painting, RCA (Current) Gallery Representation MAPA Fine Art Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Laura Holmes aims to create spaces within painting that don't exist, and is fascinated by the idea of moving and translating these inaccessible spaces to tangible planes of existence. Her postcard works are a space where she can coexist with painting - Holmes sees painting as semi-autonomous. Her relationship with paint has become symbiotic, parasitical, or dysfunctional. All cut from one original painting, these 'excerpts' are a separation, whereby one thing can exist in multiple spaces simultaneously. With the body of her work as an extension of herself, Holmes is therefore able to access these spaces in an approach which was impossible when the painting was whole. For Holmes, painting has become a way of accessing and understanding her environment. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardizes the charitable work we do. Anyone found doing will subject to legal action.
