(Light marginal dust soiling and darkening at beginning and end.) Modern half morocco, top edge gilt, others uncut. FIRST EDITION. Latrobe succeeded James Hutton as secretary of the Unity of the Bretheren in England in 1795, and was appointed a "senior civilis" in 1801. As an advocate of the missions of his church he visited South Africa in 1815-16. His journal includes a full description of the district of Groenekloof and of the missionary settlements about thirty miles north of Cape Town.
