Large Double-sided Boulder Opal Specimen—A Book-matched Split

Schätzpreis
12.000 $ - 15.000 $
Zuschlagspreis:
n. a.
Beschreibung:

Queensland, Australia Mineral-bearing waters, rich with the silica and iron that form opal, seeped in over time to fill in the voids—forming a "pool of opal" inside a large concretion. This is a textbook illustration of what a boulder opal specimen should look like with a very thick layer of fine quality veining of brilliant blue, green and milky white. The specimen is particularly notable for possessing a deposition of an opal layer both on the inside of the book-matched split as well as on the outside of the rich brown ironstone. The exposed opal has a natural polish without any enhancement or interference by man along its natural cleavage points giving it a vitreous surface luster. This is a fine room-sized piece with significant presence—an impressive, museum-quality display specimen containing a substantial amount of "cutting" quality opal in a thick seam. It is remarkable for the fact that it is still intact and has not been cut for jewelry purposes. Measuring 9 ½ x 5 x 2 ½ in
