Contemporary crimson half morocco, spines gilt, original wrappers bound-in, t.e.g. ONE OF THE FEW SPECIAL COPIES ON LARGE AND FINE PAPER of the sale catalogue of the library of the eminent Scottish bibliographer, librarian and collector. Laing was from 1837 until his death Librarian of the Signet Library; he possessed "an unrivalled knowledge of books, and all that concerned books, in every department of literature and art" (DNB).
