Engraved map and 41 plates (map with foremargin renewed.) (2E4 with marginal repair.) Modern calf-backed boards. FIRST DUTCH EDITION of Lafitau's encyclopedic account of the Iroquois mission of Sault Saint-Louis. Lafitau, a Jesuit missionary assigned to Canada from 1711 to 1718, served at St. Louis from 1712 to 1717. His work provides great detail relating to the customs, religious beliefs and social organization of the Iroquois and Hurons.
