Writing only seven months after the July Revolution, Lafayette expresses gratitude to the National Guard: "The spirit that the National Guard has shown me touches me...we will work for the accomplishment of the program of freedom and public order that you have presented in the name of the victorious people to the approval of the whole world."-- LAFAYETTE.
