They visited Siena specifically to see the famous Palio horse race. The sketchbook contains 30 leaves of checked paper, containing sketches of figure studies, still life compositions and animal studies. The final 21 leaves are mainly studies of a female figure, nude or partly clad, in brown ink. Contained in the original black morocco-backed upper wrapper printed with the words 'Blocco per Appunti'.
