KERR, John. Series of Views in the Island of Saint Helena, dedicated by permission, to Lady Lowe. London: Colnaghi & Co. and Rodwell & Martin, [no date but after June 1821, text watermarked 1819]. 2° (460 x 322mm). 6 hand-coloured aquatint plates by Robert Havell & Son after Kerr, each cut to the edge of the image and mounted within an ink-ruled frame in imitation of original drawings, six small line engraved key plates, one mounted on each page of explanatory text facing each of the large plates. (First large plate spotted, some other light spotting and marginal soiling.) Modern brown calf-backed marbled paper-covered boards, titled in gilt on spine. A VERY RARE SERIES OF VIEWS published shortly after Napoleon's death. Kerr, who was Paymaster to the 66th regiment, mentions both the funeral procession of Napoleon on 9 May 1821, and the completion of Napoleon's tomb in June 1821. Only one copy of this work is listed as having sold at auction in the past twenty-five years. Abbey Travel I, 316.
