Finely-bound in late 19th-century ivory satin embroidered in multi-coloured silks with central Tudor-style rose, spine lettered in gilt, green watered silk liners, gilt edges. The book bears a printed dedication: "Inscribed to the Memory of Thomas Chatterton."

It was said that a scathing criticism of the work in the Quarterly Review (xix, 204-8) hastened the poet's death.
