JUSTINUS, Marcus Junianus. Epitomae in Trogi Pompeii historias . Milan: Christophorus Valdarfer, 1 June 1476. Royal 4° (229 x 190mm). Collation 1-12 8 13-14 6 (1/1r preface, 1/1v text, 14/6v colophon and register). 108 leaves. 34 lines. Type: 2:107(103)R. 4- to 5-line initial spaces, some with printed guide-letters. (Very small wormholes in first 3 leaves affecting a few letters, washed, an occasional light stain.) 18th-century (possibly Dutch) red morocco, central gilt ornament within gilt panel on both sides, gilt spine, marbled edges (scuffed, spine worn). Provenance : unlocated Society of Jesuits (16th-century inscription on title and marginal annotations washed); Ruys (?, 18th-century monogram); Francis John Davies (bookplate). This epitome, made about the third century, is all that survives of Pompeius Trogus's great universal history, Historia Philippica . HC 9650; BMC VI, 726 (IB. 26223); Goff J-617; IGI 5555.
