JOSEF DRAHONOVSKY (1877–1938) Tragic Melody Starting price: 90 000 CZK (3 396 EUR) Hammer price: 110 000 CZK (4 151 EUR) Description dimensions: 52 x 48 x 27 cm (h x w x d) period: Late 1920s, Bohemia, Prague Josef Drahoňovský is a leading Czech sculptor of the early 20th century. He studied at the School of Applied Arts under professors Celda Klouček and Stanislav Sucharda In 1904 he became Sucharda's assistant, and six years later he was appointed a regular professor at the School of Applied Arts. His bronze sculptures rarely appear on the market. Drahoňovský's sculptures are often connected with architecture. His best known works include his interior decoration for the Café Imperial in Prague. Tragic Melody was exhibited at a retrospective exhibition of Josef Drahoňovský's oeuvre, held by the Myslbek association in early 1939. Published in: J.
