First year of this scarce directory of Detroit, with numerous advertisements for business, many of them illustrated. The notable map of the city, inserted at the front endpaper, is "City of Detroit, Published by J.D. Johnston, 1853-54." It measures 21.5x29.5 plus margins, and is "Lith. by R. Burger & Co. Beaubien Str. btw. Jeff. Ave. and Woodbridge St. Detroit." OCLC/WorldCat lists 12 copies of this 1853-4 directory, as well as a few runs, but there is no mention of the map.
