Holmwood was a New Zealand artist who began working for the New Zealand Railways Advertising Studio when he was just 14 years old, and continued with them through 1938. During his tenure, he designed a number of posters, most of which were landscapes. He taught art at the Wellington technical school and dedicated most of his time to painting after the Second World War. Here, he depicts an almost impressionistic view of the waterways and landscape of New Zealand's Fiordland (Southwest of New Zealand's South Island). New Zealand p. 122.
