Hyde & Sons, London & ParisA fine gold dual-time watch with jumping quarter seconds and independent centre secondsCirca 1840, no. 6115 • Movement: frosted gilded, two barrels for going and centre seconds trains, lever escapement, 23 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance, blued steel overcoil hairspring with bi-metallic compensation curb, parachute suspension• Dial: gold dial, two eccentric engine-turned dials for primary and secondary time zones, engine-turned subsidiary dial for constant and jumping 1/4 seconds, the surround with engraved lakeside scene and foliate scrolls to the base• Case: gold, the back chased and engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage, the front and back bezels and pendant heavily chased and engraved with stylised flowers and foliage, milled band with stop slide, the cuvette decorated en-suite with the case back and with four apertures for winding each train and setting each time zone, cuvette signedJohn E. Hyde & Sons London & Paris and further engraved with movement details, numbered 6115, back cover and cuvette numbered [22]75, 117, 874diameter 56mmCondition reportMovement: running at time of cataloguing and surfaces generally appear to be in good cosmetic condition with a few minor scratches and some oxidation spots. The 1/4 seconds are jumping correctly and both the centre and subsidiary seconds are also running. The trains are winding smoothly and both pairs of hands are setting smoothly also. The stop slide to the case side is operational. Dial: generally in good condition with some small scuffs to the subsidiary dials. Case: in very good overall condition, retaining excellent definition to the decoration. Some minor scuffs.
