(Marginal worming to first 8 leaves, tiny burn-hole on full-page woodcut, some soiling, mainly marginal, light waterstaining.) Later vellum, label on spine (some staining, a tiny hole). Provenance : Collalti Bibliothek (bookplate dated 1771) -- F. Fraternali (book dealer's stamp). The Sphaera mundi is Sacrobosco's most popular astronomical treaties and one of the most frequently reprinted scientific books of the 15th century: over 30 editions are recorded between 1472 and 1501. In the present edition it is accompanied by J. Regiomantanus, Disputationes contra Cremonensia and G. Peurbach, Theoricae novae planetarum . The woodcuts first appeared in Johannes Santritter and Hieronymus de Sanctis's edition of 31 March 1488.
