Lectura super arbore [consanguinitatis et affinitatis] and other texts on canon law, chiefly drawing on book V of the Summa de casibus conscientae of Astesanus de Ast, in Latin, ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Germany, late 15th Century]215 x 148mm. 36 leaves: 1 1 4, 2 1 2, 3 1 0, one early annotation in German, the Andreae text with justification 155 x 66mm, with copious marginal glosses and annotations, illustrated with 4 full-page or double-page tables showing the arbor consanguinitatis, the 'Arbor affinitatis', the 'Arbor spiritualis cognationis affinitatis' and the 'Arbor legalis cognationis' (some worming throughout). Later vellum boards, paper wrappers. CONTENT: ff.2-22r Johannes Andreae, 'Lectura super arboris consanguinitatis et affinitatis'. COMPLETE ff.22v-33 Extracts from works on canon law relating to confession and the pentitential canons, drawing chiefly on the Summa of Astesanus de Ast, book V, titles 31 and 32, one extract from an unidentified 'summa confessorum', another from the Catholicon , and two from treatises by Jean de Gerson (about symony and the learning of confessors) ff.34-36 A brief treatise 'De approbacione et confirmacione institucionum seu regule et statutorum ordinis carthusiensis', a 'Speculum Institucionis ordinum et officiorum ecclesie' and other miscellaneous citations Johannes Andreae, one of the great canonists of the later Middle Ages, is chiefly associated with the University of Bologna. Amongst his prolific writings the most influential were his commentaries on papal decretals.
