Beschreibung:

Lot of 24 pencil and pastel sketches, each 17.5 x 23 in., each dated and almost all copyrighted by the artist in lower margin, covering the 1982 trial of John Hinckley, Jr. Sketches include renderings of John Hinckley, Jr.; Hinckley with his parents; Hinckley with his attorneys; the judge; the jury; witnesses including Dr. Dietz, the psychiatrist who was also the primary psychiatric witness in the trial of Jeffrey Dahmer; and courtroom action. Accompanied by printed biography autographed by the artist. Lead defense attorney Vince Fuller recounted the events of his client's "pathetic" life, bringing Hinckley to tears on the stand, and had psychiatrist David Bear perform CAT scans on Hinckley's brain, using structural abnormalities as evidence of his mental illness. Images from these portions of the trail are presented in this lot. While this lot contains 24 sketches, 12 are pictured here. For further information on the non-pictured sketches, please contact Cowan's. Joan Andrew, Washington Post and CNN Sketch Artist Collection of Original Sketches Lots 210-221 Joan Andrew, a graduate of the University of Colorado, is an award-winning painter, sculptor, and weaver. From 1981 until 1984, Andrew also worked as a sketch artist for the Washington Post and CNN, illustrating the proceedings in the United States District Court, the Supreme Court, and the Senate. Working in quickly in Prisma colored pencil, Andrew was often required to complete upwards of eight drawings per session, sometimes averaging one portrait every fifteen minutes. Her adept renderings of scenes from the courtroom and Senate floor document important scenes of U.S. judicial and legislative history. Condition: Overall excellent condition.
