Woodcut Jesuit device on title, woodcut tailpieces. (Title frayed at margin and with erased contemporary signatures, D2-D3 holed with some loss, browning and spotting, dampstain at margins, inkstains and stamps towards end.) Contemporary limp vellum titled in a contemporary hand on spine (some tears and small losses, pinpricks on lower cover, ties lacking). FIRST EDITION of this collection of letters recording the activities of Jesuit missionaries in Japan in the final years of the reign of Emperor Nobunaga. The volume comprises letters by Francesco Carrion, Lorenze Mexia, Luis Fróis, Francesco Cabral and extracts from Gregorio de Gespedes' letter of 1579. Cordier Japonica 74.
