Engraved document signed ("Th: Jefferson") as President, countersigned by James Madison as Sec. of State, Washington, D.C., 25 February 1807. 1 page, folio (14 x 9 3/8 in.), ON PARCHMENT, accomplished in manuscript, with scalloped top edge, browned, parchment cockled, lacks paper seal, slightly faded. A SHIP'S PASSPORT. Attractively engraved, with calligraphic heading "By the President of the United States of America," with vignettes of a fully-rigged American sailing vessel at top and a detailed harbor scene with lighthouse and sailing vessels, requesting that a Brig commanded by Charles T. Lawstead, be permitted to "Pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods and Merchandise without any hindrance, seizure or molestation..."
