JAMES LOVELL'S LARGE US FLAG CARRIED ON GEMINI 7.

Schätzpreis
7.000 $ - 9.000 $
Zuschlagspreis:
n. a.
Beschreibung:

Flown flag, silk, 11 by 18 inches, inscribed towards the lower edge: “Flown on board Gemini VII spacecraft, James Lovell ” Together with a Typed Letter Signed by James Lovell One of the largest flags carried on any American space mission. Size and weight constraints limited the number of flags that could be taken, with a flag of this size off setting the opportunity to carry around six smaller flags. Gemini 7 completed the longest manned space mission to date, some 14 days in earth orbit, a record that would not be surpassed until 1971. This length of weightless exposure to astronauts James Lovell and Frank Borman was critical to the understanding of how the human body would adapt to the space environmental conditions associated with a lunar flight. During their two week mission, Gemini 6 was launched and made the first rendezvous in space with the Gemini 7 spacecraft. LOVELL’S LETTER READS: "The item listed below was flown on board Gemini 7 spacecraft. Gemini 7 launched in December of 1965 was the fourth earth-orbiting spacecraft of the Gemini series." THE LETTER IS INSCRIBED AND SIGNED: "United States Flag, James Lovell Jr."
