Goodyear. George Wharton James (1858-1923) was born in England, went to Nevada as a young Methodist circuit-riding minister and later to a pastorate in Long Beach. Ousted from the Church after a scandalous divorce, he became a popular public lecturer on social issues, on his own philosophy, and on the Western scene. His most well known and useful books are on Indian blankets and basketry. (13)
