JAMES DEWEY WATSON (B. 1928) AND FRANCIS HARRY COMPTON CRICK (1916-2004) The Double Helix -- 50 Years [Nature Publishing Group supplement]. London: Nature Publishing Group, 23 January 2003. 4° (276 x 212mm). Illustrations. (Occasional inkmarking from inscriptions.) Original printed wrappers (slight creasing). 50TH-ANNIVERSARY SUPPLEMENTARY ISSUE OF NATURE , SIGNED BY ALL BUT ONE OF THE LIVING AUTHORS OF THE THREE PAPERS. This supplement, published to commemorate the publication of the papers announcing the discovery of the structure of DNA, contains facsimiles of the three papers -- Watson and Crick's 'A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid', M.H.F. Wilkins, A.R. Stokes and H.R. Wilson's 'Molecular Structure of Deoxypentose Nucleic Acids', and Rosalind E. Franklin and R.G. Gosling's 'Molecular Configuration in Sodium Thymonucleate' -- together with articles about the papers and their impact. The upper wrapper of the issue has been inscribed 'With best wishes' and signed below 'R.G. Gosling', 'Herbert Wilson', 'Francis Crick', 'Odile Crick' (Crick's wife, who drew the diagrams for the original paper), and 'Maurice Wilkins', and the facsimiles of the papers have also been signed: the first paper signed 'Odile Crick' by the diagram and 'Francis Crick' at the end; the second paper signed 'Maurice Wilkins' and 'Herbert Wilson' at the end; the third paper 'R.G. Gosling' at the end. Together, these constitute all of the living authors of the papers (Rosalind Franklin had died in 1958 and A.R. Stokes died in February 2003), apart from Watson.
