(James, civil engineer, Superintendent of the Great Eastern Railway, 1818-89) Scrap Album, including: 13 railway timetables of special trains, variously for, the Prince Consort's famous journey of 1861 to see the Prince of Wales at Cambridge shortly after which he died, Queen Victoria, Prince and Princess of Wales [the future Edward VII & Queen Alexandra], 4 carbon copies or copies of telegrams on the condition of the Prince of Wales while suffering from typhoid fever in 1871, photographs, ephemera, including: 3 letters from Queen 's household and the Prince and Princess of Wales household about arrangements for trains, "On the Death of H.R.H. the Princess Alice" by Edith A.L. Kemp, invitation to a garden-party at Marlborough House etc., 2 oriental watercolours of three figures and 1 of foliage and butterflies, c. 40pp., most laid down or tipped, inscription on torn front free endpaper: "To James Robertson a Xmas Gift (1869) from C.A.R[obertson]", some browning and foxing, morocco cover from another album, all loose and unbound, g.e., 4to, 1860-89. *** Journeys between Windsor, St. Pancras, Cambridge and Wolferton in in Norfolk. "Eastern Counties Railway. Memorandum... Prince Consort died 11pm last night... N. Boyes Tottenham Dec 15/61." "Official Bulletin Sandringham 14th 8am H.R.H. Prince of Wales has slept quietly at intervals during the night. There is some abatement of the gravity of the Symptoms." Edward, the future Edward VII caught typhoid in October 1871 from the drains at Londesborough Lodge where he had been staying. Alfred Austin, the future poet laureate, wrote: 'd from his bed, the electric tidings came,is not better; he is much the same.
