Contemporary cloth, label on front cover (label of James Fraser “Book Binder and Stationer Church Street Kingston,” on front pastedown). Brown cloth chemise and slipcase, red morocco spine. A nineteenth-century Jamaica almanac with a Jewish Calendar. Many early Jamaica almanacs, like the present, include a page showing the Jewish calendar, which “would seem to be an indication of the importance of Jewish residents in the eyes of Christian Jamaicans” (B.W. Korn, ”The Haham DeCordova of Jamaica,” in American Jewish Archives 18:2 [Nov. 1966]). In addition, on pages 151 and 152 is a listing of the leaders of both the “English and German Jews’ Synagogue” and the “Spanish and Portuguese Jews’ Synagogue” in Kingston.
