Bronze Statue of Genl. Andrew Jackson .
New York: Smith & Jenkins, 1853. Tinted lithograph by B. F. Smith Jr. after a daguerreotype by Paige, wide margins (23 ½ x 18 ½ inches, 595x467 mm, overall). Condition: Very minor soiling and foxing, a few very short repaired edge tears. Matted. a stunning lithograph of a monumental statue of andrew jackson This superb lithograph was published at the time of the unveiling of Clark Mills's bronze statue of Andrew Jackson in Washington D. C. Mills's triumphal bronze, depicting Jackson upon a rearing horse following the Battle of New Orleans, was installed on 8 June 1853 in Lafayette Park (just behind the White House). The print even includes a affidavit from Mills at the bottom of the print, with a facsimile signature, stating that the image is a faithful representation of his statue. The image was drawn and lithographed by Benjamin Franklin Smith Jr., one of America's most prominent printmakers, who specialized in large city views.
