EDGE, MANCHESTER A FINE CASED 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 1493, circa 1852, with expertly rebrowned 30in. barrels signed on the top-rib 'JOHN WILLIAM EDGE', engraved bands at breech and a gamebird engraved to the rib-end, platinum vented plugs, borderline and fully scroll engraved top-tang, border, scroll and gamescene engraved back-action locks signed 'J.W. EDGE', scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers, the bodies inhabited by serpents and mythical beasts, chequered walnut half-stock (cracked and expertly repaired forwards of standing breech), escutcheon at wrist engraved with a club-wielding ancient man, iron furniture including game-scene and scroll engraved spur to the heel-plate, scroll engraved lower tang, border engraved trigger-guard bow with hunting dogs, pineapple finial and engraved ramrod throat and worm ended brass tipped ebony ramrod, complete in its makers brass banded oak storage case, the inside of lid with parchment label for the Ridgefield address, compartmented and lined in green baize with lidded compartments and a good number of period accessories including a spare ramrod, dismountable cleaning rod, turn-screw (with ivory pommel), nipple cleaners, brush, two nice period shot and powder-flasks, nipple key, spring clamp, wad-punch, two oil bottles and a large cap-tin, the outer lid with escutcheon marked with the gun number and 'JOHN WOOD'
