Haydn, Joseph] IMPORTANT DRAFT CONTRACT FOR THE PUBLICATION OF DIE SCHOEPFUNG (THE CREATION) IN FRANCE, TOGETHER WITH LETTERS ABOUT IGNAZ PLEYEL'S NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE COMPOSER, WRITTEN BY HOFFMEISTER AND BY KÖHLER ON BEHALF OF PLEYEL 1) Autograph draft of a contract in French, written and signed by the publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister, for him to use on behalf of Pleyel in negotiating with Haydn the sale and transfer of all rights to The Creation, allowing Pleyel to engrave and publish the work exclusively in France, including the score and the parts as Pleyel sees fit, seeking the assurance that Haydn has not given these rights to anyone else in France, in return for a sum to be agreed [the amount here left blank], giving Hoffmeister the right to act for Pleyel and to pay Haydn the eventual sum agreed (“...qui me charge de me rendre à Vienne pour y traiter avec Mr Joseph Haydn de l'acquisition de son oratorio, intitulé la creation du monde, a êté contenu, ce qui suit: que moi Joseph Haydn declare vendre, ceder et transporter à Ignace Pleyel la Proprieté de l'oratorio que j'ay composé...”), 2 pages, 4to (c.22.5 x 19cm), Vienna, 20 September 1800 (with the date altered to 28 September), a few smudges, probably by the author 2) Autograph letter signed written in German by A.C.F. Köhler on behalf of Pleyel (and in his presence), to the Viennese composer and pianist, Johann Andreas Streicher, asking for his assistance in persuading Haydn to cede the publication rights of The Creation to Pleyel, and to help with the negotiations regarding the price, and also asking for a good portrait of the composer which Pleyel might use for the title-page of the complete edition of Haydn's works, 2 pages, 4to (c.25 x 19.5cm), Leipzig, 3 September 1800, annotated and dated by the recipient on 17 September 1800, including some financial calculations, creasing along central fold, some browning 3) Manuscript note written in German in an unidentified hand, and unsigned, in support of Pleyel's negotiations for the sole rights to The Creation in France (“...um solche französisch und wälsch in Partitur herausgegeben, die Propriete überlaße...”), 1 page, 4to (c.22.5 x 18.5cm), no place or date
