ISOCRATES Orationes et epistolae. Cum latina interpretatione [...]. Geneva, H. Estienne, Folio: [28]-131-[XXXIV], [10]-31-[pp. (age-toned paper, some foxing, stained, title. sl. frayed, occ. marginalia, sm. partly repaired holes to lower margin of title). 17th-c. calf, gilt orn. spine raised on 5 bands, gilt stamped covers (joints loosening, sl. rubbed, sm. def. at head, old repairs at head & tail, corners sl. worn). Rare Geneva ed. of the complete letters and orations of the Greek philosopher and rethorician Isocrates (436-B.C.). Together with Demosthenos, he was the most influential rethorician and political speaker in Athens. With original Greek text and Latin translation by Hieronymus Wolf. Woodcut mark on title, orn. initials and headpieces. Greek ms. quote from Plutarch on endlvs. It was the only book issued from the press of Henri Estienne that year. Ref.
