Beschreibung:

ISAAC BEN SAMUEL, of Acre (late 13th-early 14th century). Sefer Me'irat Enayim (major commentary on Nachmanides' mysticism incorporating kabbalistic writings from the Gerona circle). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER Copied by Hayyim ben Samuel Gatigno, in Borgo Valsugan, near Trento (Northern Italy), completed on Sunday, 13 Nisan, 5334 (= 1574) 2 o (280 x 210 mm). [1 blank] + 194 leaves, original Hebrew foliation. Brown ink. Sephardic semi-cursive script. (Last seven leaves with tear in the bottom margin, no loss of text, crude old repairs, slightly browned, ink corroded in square headings, affecting the text, otherwise good condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled brown morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front. CONTENTS: Fols. [1]rv: blank, with later inscriptions; 1r-194r: text; 194r: colophon; 194v: blank. First published in Jerusalem 1975-1979, and in a critical edition by A. Goldreich (Jerusalem 1984). Goldreich used this manuscript, described on p. 26, together with many others, for variant readings. Fourteen manuscripts copied by the scribe Hayyim Gatigno are extant, almost all of which are kabbalistic works. Gatigno, who dubbed himself 'Sefaradi', or Spaniard, and 'the physician', copied manuscripts in Rome from 1548-1551 and in Venice in 1570. He was also a proofreader of the 1558 Cremona edition of the Zohar. PROVENANCE: Presented as a gift to R. Zevi Hirsh Levin in London by Judah Loeb ben Zeev Wolf Praeger (fol. [1]r). REFERENCES: Neubauer, no. 72, p. 25; Institute of Microfilmed Hebrew Manuscripts, Jerusalem, F 4742.
