Beschreibung:

339, [2] pp. Illustrated from photographs. (8vo), cloth-backed decorative paper-covered boards, pictorial dust jacket, top edge stained red. First Edition. Signed and inscribed by Jackie Robinson in the year of publication to his friend David Wallerstein and his wife on the front free endpaper: "4/22/60 - To my good friends Dave and Caroline Wallerstein with respect and admiration. One of the real pleasures of my baseball career was the friendship we developed. You must know how much I enjoyed our associations, you made my Chicago visits a pleasure. If there were more Wallersteins around there would be no need to wait till next year. With all good wishes to you and the boys for continued success. I remain as ever, Jackie Robinson." Additionally, co-author Carl Rowan signed and inscribed the half title page to the Wallersteins in 1981. David B. Wallerstein was a theater executive and a member of the board of directors at McDonald's Corp., where he invented the fast food chain's large size fries. Walt Disney who regularly flew him to Hollywood to preview his films, said "the two greatest showmen" he ever knew "were Dave Wallerstein and Sam Goldwyn." Shown are digital images of Robinson and Wallerstein, not included with volume.
